Scriptures of Encouragement ~ A Passage Through the Mountain

by Nan Jones  @NanJonesAuthor

A mountain loomed ahead - not a mountain of stone, but a  mountain of enormous fear and worry. It's face was sheer like granite. Solid. Impassable. Its monstrous size obliterated the sun, leaving the young mother trembling in the shadows. Heartbreak wept. Doubts crept through the darkness. Fear taunted.

The double doors to the operating room swung wide. Leaning over her son, tears coursing down her sorrow-ridden face, she kissed him good-bye. "I love you, Jake." "I love you too, Mom."

Jake's foot and ankle had been consumed by a potentially lethal infection following an earlier surgery to repair broken bones. He was now septic. The skin on his foot was dead, and infection traveled throughout the bones in his body. The situation was very serious.

Thoughts of despair rattled through the mom's mind.

The mountain of fear grew larger.

And the people of God prayed.

In the quiet of a frantic moment the mom caught a glimpse of God. She knew all along that He was with them, but she hadn't been able to see Him through her tear-dimmed eyes. But now her eyes were opened. In her mind's eye she could see a cleft - an opening or trail of sorts - in the stone mountainside. It was a place of refuge, a parting of the impossible that led to the throne of God.

"Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today...The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." ~ Exodus 14:13-14

Yes, Lord. Cover me with Your peace. Shelter me in Your Presence. I give my son to You. She prayed with an earnest heart, a desperate heart...a trusting heart.

A calm reassurance filled her, shining His light abroad in the darkness.

Are you too, face to face with a mountain of impossibility? Is it pebbled with enormous fear and worry?

God's faithfulness is amazing. His mercies are new every morning. We can count on Him to be our sure place in the midst of our anguish. We can know that when we face our mountains, He will make a way - He will provide a passage through to His throne of grace. God is bigger than our mountains. He is mightier than the evil our enemy intends for us.

And He will always cover us with His Presence when we cry out to Him.

I'm asking you, my precious reader, to pray for Jake, his mom Christina, and his family as they fight this infection. A second surgery is scheduled today (Tuesday, June 24th) and possibly a third surgery later in the week. He is not out of the woods yet and has a very long recovery ahead of him. We cherish your prayers.

  1. Your post reminds me of this verse in James 5:16, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." Yes, prayers are abounding and God is working! When we are at our weakest, that's when He's at His strongest! May we all find His strength and grace and peace in us today! Resting in God with you with love. <3

    1. I love that verse Marcie. It is so true!! If only we could hold of understanding the power found in prayer, our lives would be different I think. God is faithful to respond when we cry out to Him. Love you!
