Scriptures of Encouragement ~ Where Love Grows

by Nan Jones

Pops of canary yellow scattered across the yard. The dandelions were random in location, cheerful in demeanor. Just over the knoll an older dandelion sprouted a tall stalk topped by a globe of wispy, white seeds.

A breeze kicked up. The air became filled with dozens of potential dandelions riding on the wings of the wind. They danced, twirled, and floated to new destinations across the yard, across the street. Some sailed all the way to our neighbor's yard. Where each seed landed, a dandelion grew.

Such is the scattering of God's love.

Where each seed of compassion lands, Love grows. New life begins. Hope is restored, joy revisited.

Does my life scatter God's love? Am I conscious of planting seeds of Life in the hearts of others, intentionally being a sower of the Word?

"By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoever has this world's goods,
and sees his brother in need,
and shuts up his heart from him,
how does the love of God abide in him?
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth.
And by this we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our hearts before Him."
~ 1 John 3:16-19

The tenacity of the dandelion speaks to me.

If only I can learn to yield to the Spirit of God as the tiny wispy seeds yield to the wind.

  1. Hi Nan! Interesting comparison. I always think of those darn dandelion seeds as my enemy. LOL! But it's a great way to explain compassion and love from God because they are everywhere, and hold such promise.
It's a powerful image to think that our love can be like that, if it is God-centered. Maybe I should think about these seeds in a whole new way?
    Seeds for thought!

    1. I had to laugh Ceil. I've never appreciated dandelions before, either. But then I realized how easily they scattered just by yielding to the wind and I couldn't help but draw a comparison. You're so precious.
