Finding God's Presence ~ How Does God Become Everything I Need?

by Nan Jones   @NanJonesAuthor

I'm struggling. Really struggling. But in my struggling I'm learning who the Great I AM is, not just in rhetoric ... in reality. In my desperation I am pressing into the Lord more than ever, and in that pressing  I'm gaining a deeper understanding of who He is.

Pressing in. That's the key. He cannot be my all in all if I keep Him at arm's length. He can't reveal Himself to me if I don't take time to ask for the unveiling and then take time to listen.

In my brokenness I'm learning to do both.

But it must be an intentional seeking of His face.

When Moses encountered God, it was intentional and because Moses responded, the Lord revealed Himself as I AM WHO I AM.

Here's the scoop:

Moses was tending the flock of Jethro on the far side of the desert. As he and the sheep journeyed, they came to Mt. Horeb, the mountain of God. Moses was just going about his day. "And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn."

Moses made a decision to turn.

God responded.

"So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses, Moses!' And he said, 'Here I am.'"

As their meeting continued, the Lord explained to Moses that He had seen the oppression of His people in Egypt and was planning a deliverance for them. He also explained that Moses was His plan, to which Moses basically said, "You've got to be kidding. I can't do that." He then sarcastically (my opinion) asked the Lord who should he say had sent him when the people of Israel asked.

"And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" ~ Exodus 3:2-14

I AM whatever you need Me to be.

Try to let that sink in...

When my world is falling apart, HE IS my sure place.

When my heart is shattered into a million pieces, HE IS my healer.

When I am afraid, HE IS my courage.

When I don't know what to do, HE IS my wisdom.

When I am drowning in despair, HE IS my hope.

When I can't breathe for crying, HE IS my joy.

When I am overwhelmed by life, HE IS my peace.

IF I press in and, with intention, seek His face, ask Him to let me see beyond the veil, and then listen for His response ... then He becomes everything I need.

Selah.

  1. I think you hit the nail on the head here, "it must be an intentional seeking of His face". It took me a long time to realize that little factoid about our Christian walk. Thank you for the reminders of who we are in Christ and how when we intentionally seek Him we not only find Him but we He truly does become our Everything. Love you!

    1. Marcie, I think seeking Him intentionally is so obvious and simple, it becomes profound. It's like we're blinded to the simplicity of knowing God intimately. I believe that rotten deceiver has something to do with that ;-)
