Finding God's Presence ~ The Soothing Song of Grace

by Nan Jones   @NanJonesAuthor

A stiff breeze blew across the mountain holler. Trees swayed in the wind while the daffodils bobbed up and down like a toddler at play. I rocked on my porch swing for a few moments, refreshing myself with a drink of cool water. The afternoon of transplanting irises had been productive, but tiring. It felt good to sit and do nothing and to let my thoughts settle on Jesus.

Peace enveloped me as the chilly breeze kissed my cheek while scampering past the porch. Wind always reminds me of the Lord's presence. The scriptures tell us that He walks on the wings of the wind, that He brings the wind out of His treasuries. Job once remarked that the Lord spoke to him out of the whirlwind - that place of confusion and fear. And then there's the tempest that comes upon us suddenly and it seems as though our entire world will be destroyed. Jesus rises and speaks, "Peace, be still" and the wind obeys Him.

As I rocked, echoing the movement of the trees, I became mesmerized by the music of our wind chimes. Each time the wind hurried past, the chimes sang an ethereal tune. If the wind was gentle, the music was soft. If the wind became strong and ferocious, the music intensified in tone and pitch.

Grace is like that, soft and gentle when moments are easy, but strong and ferocious when life comes at us hard.

God promises that His grace is sufficient ... His ability matches our need perfectly. His strength consumes our weaknesses. His hope replaces our despair.

And when we think we can't go on - if we'll open our ears to hear - the soothing song of grace will sing in the breeze as His love passes by.

"My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.

"Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen.
I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer,
these limitations that cut me down to size—
abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks.
I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become."

  1. Dear Nan,
So grateful His grace finds us, what ever our circumstance! 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10 is my life verse, proven over and over again during the 40 plus years I've been privileged to walk with Him! Thanks for sharing your heart and life. Hugs to you, sweet daughter of the King!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Glenda. I don't think I've ever appreciated His grace as much as I have lately. It really is amazing. Love you!
