Scriptures of Easter ~ The World Has Gone After Him!

 by Nan Jones

"He's coming! He's coming!" Shouts of excitement rang across the Jerusalem countryside. Children ran alongside their parents filling the air with laughter. "There. Over there! Gather the palm branches. We must make a carpet for our King."

Palm branches were laid carefully along the road. People took off their robes and cushioned the path for their Messiah. It wasn't much, but they wanted to honor Him. Anticipation was building. The buzz of conversation traveled far and wide. "Have you seen Lazarus? Yes! Jesus raised him from the dead. I saw it with my own eyes." Another man clasped his heart and said, "I once was blind, but now I see. Jesus touched me and opened my eyes." A fisherman called to the crowd, "We were on the sea tossed about by a terrible storm. I knew we were all going to die. But Jesus was with us and He spoke to the storm and said, 'Peace, be still' and the wind and the waves obeyed His command. Surely, He is the Son of God."

"Look! There. Over the hill. He's coming over the hill." Throngs of people surrounded the lowly donkey on which Jesus rode. The crowd swelled and began to cry out, "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' Hosanna in the highest!"

"Jesus, He is our King! The Anointed One!"

On the edge of the crowd, standing in the shadows of an olive grove, a group of Pharisees whispered and balked at the sight before them. Their eyes squinted with disdain and their jaws jutted out as they spewed their disgust.

"The Pharisees therefore said among themselves,
'You see that you are accomplishing nothing.
Look, the world has gone after Him!'"
~ John 12:19

... Look, the world has gone after Him!

Wow! Have you ever seen that sentence before? I know. Me, either.

This verse leaped off the page Sunday as I focused on the difference Jesus has made in my life. The Pharisees - the religious, self-righteous ones - could do nothing to stop the work of God. And yes, the world embraced the love of their Savior! They believed. They stood in awe at the work of the Lord.

The people opened their eyes to see. They found the heart of God, His Son Jesus.

Have you embraced Him? Have you allowed Him to love you and repair the broken places?

Jesus came not into the world to condemn the world, but to bring us life. To bring us hope. To introduce us to our Father God.

  1. Wow! I would have loved to been in the crowd that welcomed Him! What a sight that must have been. I love this line: "look, the world has gone after Him!" It makes me think, "have I gone after Him with all I have?" Love you!

    1. I know what you mean Jamie. Sometimes we take our faith for granted because it's so easy for us here. I pray that I will always hunger for the things of God. You are a blessing to me. Love you!
