Isn't It Remarkable?

"The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you."
(Deuteronomy 7:7,8)

The Lord chose you and me because He loves us.

Plain and simple.
We were chosen because He loves us.

Isn't that remarkable?
We try so hard to complicate this relationship we share with Almighty God. We work feverishly to put God's love into the confines of human love. We think that if we can embellish it with poetic prose, paint it with glorious words of the heart or analyze it with deep theological arguments that THEN we can contain it. THEN we can understand it. THEN we can explain this unexplainable force of grace and mercy and love.

Yes, it is remarkable, isn't it?

We can't earn it. The Israelites, of which we are now grafted in by the Blood of Jesus, were not chosen by God because they were great in number. No. God chose them because He loved them. He chose them and us to be His special treasure, the apple of His eye.

Plain and simple.

Perhaps we complicate God's love because that way we can keep up our defenses and keep Him at a distance.
After all, how could He possibly love someone like me? Surely a Holy God couldn't REALLY love me! I'm not good enough. I'm not pretty enough. I'm not smart enough, or generous enough or compassionate enough...

Ephesians 2:4,5 from The Message reads, "Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, He embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on His own, with no help from us!"

Plain and simple.

Isn't it remarkable?

Father, indeed, it is remarkable! We try so hard to understand Your love, but it is impossible. It so far exceeds human love. It cannot be measured. Open our eyes that we might see and understand that YOU LOVE US, plain and simple. Thank You, Lord for Your love.
