"You called in trouble and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. SELAH"
(Psalm 81:7)
"I answered you in the secret place of thunder..."
This sentence grabbed my attention today.
As I slowly thought about each word, an image of a billowing storm formed in my mind. There was thunder and lightening, dark ominous clouds driven by fierce winds. I saw myself as a child caught out in the storm, frightened and alone, being violently tossed to and fro. In my imagination, I called out to my Daddy to help me, to comfort me, to shield me from the wind-driven rain piercing my skin.
And my Father answered me.
He answered me in the secret place of thunder.
Many of my friends are really struggling right now. Some are facing the loss of a loved one or serious illness. Some are facing obstacles that only the Lord Himself can deliver them from. Others are without jobs, fighting severe depression or just simply trying to keep their head above water.
Many of you are in the storm I just described.
You are not alone in the storm.
Let's say that again, a little louder and with a little more faith, "I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS STORM!"
In the very darkest moment of your life, when the fiercest of storms is swirling all about you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. God the Father is with you. He is in the eye of the storm. His chariot rides upon the clouds, His voice courses through the rolling thunder.
It is His Light you see in the midst of the darkness.
Beloved, He is with you. This storm you are facing holds a secret place where God abides. Run to Him. The darkness is but the shadow of His wing sheltering His child.
Perhaps the storm is a gift - an opportunity to abide in the secret place of the Most High God.
Blessed Lord, We cry out to You as Your children and anticipate Your Presence, Your Light, Your love. I lift up my friends who are hurting, frightened and overwhelmed. Comfort them Lord. Show yourself strong in their lives. You, Lord, are mighty to save. Let them hear Your voice in the storm. Thank You Father.
Though we may feel as if we are alone, we're never alone. He's always with us!
