The Sovereign Lord I Know

"The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of His Servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the Name of the Lord and rely on His God."
(Isaiah 50:4,10)

I have been learning a great deal about sovereignty lately. In fact, it seems to be a common thread throughout the Body of Christ. When a theme, or principle, or scripture or key word keeps popping up, we need to pay attention. God is speaking.

As the world becomes more and more difficult, as our trials become more and more severe, great comfort can be found by the one who chooses to trust in the sovereignty of God.

I looked up the word sovereign in the Roget's Thesaurus and found representative words such as: authority, absolute, commanding, effectual, guiding, highest, majestic, reigning, ruling and supreme. Now, add some of these words as adjectives in front of the Name of our Lord: Absolute Lord, Effectual Lord, Guiding Lord, Highest Lord, Reigning Lord...isn't that awesome? This helps us understand the character of our Sovereign Lord.

The Amplified Bible
translates verse 10 this way, "Who is among you who reverently fears the Lord, who obeys the voice of His Servant, yet who walks in darkness and deep trouble and has no shining splendor in his heart? Let him rely on, trust in, and be confident in the name of the Lord, and let him lean upon and be supported by his God!"

There are times when our sight is clouded, our minds are numbed by confusion and anxiety. These are the times of darkness and deep trouble Isaiah is referring to. The darkness in our soul dims the Light of Christ so that it no longer shines brilliantly within us. But what does Isaiah say next? "Let him rely on, trust in, and be confident in the Name of the Lord. Let him lean upon and be supported by his God." Why? Because He is SOVEREIGN! Absolute. Effectual. Guiding. Supreme.

When you have your back against a wall, when your ears are humming with the buzz of confusion and your eyes can only perceive a dark path before you - command your spirit to step up to the plate and rely on, trust in and be confident in the One in Whom you have believed!

It is a choice.
A difficult choice because the deceiver of our souls would have us wallow in our pain. He would have us focus on the insurmountable problem in front of us. He would have us throw our hands up in defeat and miss the miraculous intervention of our Lord.

Beloved, don't listen to the deceiver. Run to the Sovereign Lord.
He is in control of everything that concerns us. When you think He is silent and not doing anything about your problem...STOP and THINK. That is not what the Word of God says about His relationship with us. He is faithful to His children. He hears us when we call. He lights our path. He parts the sea to let us cross. He destroys the enemy.

And when you think He's not doing anything, I have learned THAT is when He is doing the most.
He is putting His plan in place. He is setting up divine appointments. He is ordering my steps to fulfill His purpose in me. And in you.

THAT is the Sovereign Lord I know.

I love You, Lord. I take such comfort in the knowledge that You are in control of this world. Teach all of us to discern the spirit - to know Your voice and to NOT listen to the voice of the deceiver. Rise up within us. Grant us peace where there is despair, joy where there is sorrow. Thank You, Father. You are precious.
