When Your Enemy is in Hot Pursuit

"And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night."
(Exodus 14:19,20)

Picture this: About a million children of God - weary, dirty and very afraid - are camped on the shore of the Red Sea. The Egyptian army is in hot pursuit, gaining ground every day. When the Egyptians catch up, surely the Israelites will be destroyed.

The children of God looked up and "...behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord." (verse 10)

They CRIED OUT to the Lord. And the Lord heard them.

Now, look what happened...

The Angel of God in the pillar of cloud Who had been leading them, moved and placed Himself BEHIND the Israelites.

And this is what the scene looked like:

Egyptian Army -> ANGEL OF GOD -> children of God

The Lord God placed Himself BETWEEN His children and their enemy. Hallelujah!

I said...the Lord God placed Himself BETWEEN His children and their enemy!

We have an enemy in hot pursuit of us - Satan is his name. He roams the earth like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Satan has given his army of demons names: depression, anger, fear, job loss, cancer, alcohol, drugs, pornography - and the list goes on.

These are our enemies but, according to God's Word, when we cry out to the Lord our God, He moves Himself and stands between us and our enemy.

Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world!

Father, Thank You for the image of Your protection You have given us in this passage of Scripture. Thank You for loving us enough to fight for us, to defend us and - yes - to even move so as to place Yourself between us and our enemy. You are awesome, God. I love you and I give You praise!
