"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
(John 16:33)
How many of you have an aching in your heart - a longing - for the peace of God? I know I do. These are difficult days, but God, in His infinite wisdom, knew these days of destruction would come and, once again, provided a way for us. How does He say we will have peace? In Him!! It doesn't say beside Him; it doesn't say thinking about Him once in a while. It doesn't even say we will receive peace through the faith of someone else. Jesus says we will have peace in Him. We must live within His love. He must become our all in all.
The Greek word used here for tribulation is 'thlipsis' (thlip-sis). Listen to what it means: pressure, oppression, stress, anguish, crushing, squashing, squeezing, distress. That pretty well tells it like it is, doesn't it? I know EXACTLY how each of these descriptions feel! My guess is that you do, as well. But Jesus declares that He has overcome them! When we abide in Him, totally consumed by His love, we are made an overcomer, too.
And then, we bask in the serenity of His peace.
Father, reveal Your truth to us. Help us understand what it really means to be found in You, to abide there, to be consumed with You. I know that when we find our way to that place, we will find Your peace, because we will find You.
